United States Army Heroes

Army Seal

The series of volumes of United States Army Heroes comprise a virtual library of the history of Army Awards, and the citations describing the heroic acts that earned them. Volumes I and II contain not only the names, citation, and basic personal information of every Army award of the Medal of Honor in history, but also a basic history of the award itself. It further includes photographs of nearly all recipients from World War I to present, as well as the photos of numerous recipients from earlier wars.

Additional volumes in this 13-volume library of Army heroes awarded the highest decorations, provide the history and a comprehensive collection of citations for these Army heroes.

Each volume sells for $24.95 on Amazon, and each is a large (8 1/2 x 11") book usually in excess of 500 pages. You can click on the cover for each volume shown here to go directly to the Amazon page where you can find additional details on each book, and even view a limited preview online.

Awards of the Medal of Honor
(Revised and Updated: August 2018) Volume Ia - Medal of Honor (544 Pages), contains the citation for each and every Army award of the Medal of Honor (including Army awards to civilians, U.S. Marines, and the Unknown Soldiers) from the Civil War through World War I. Volume Ib - Medal of Honor (546 Pages), contains the citation for each and every Army award of the Medal of Honor from World War II through the Wars on Terrorism (GWOT).

Basic personal data is included for each recipient including, when known, date and place of birth, date of death, place of burial, and interesting personal notes.  Photos are included for nearly ALL recipients from WWI to present, with a significant number of photos of earlier recipients. Because of the sheer size of this volume (625 pages), I was unable to include the appendixes included in the Volumes I of the other services. These Medal of Honor appendixes are included at the end of Volume II (Distinguished Service Cross), and include such information as Medal of Honor facts, details on the 19 double recipients, identification of the Living Medal of Honor recipients, recipients by rank, MOS, military academy, unit, home town, and burial location.
